Fast-rising R&B singer-songwriter Alex Mali has teamed up with Brooklyn-based producer Jah for her latest cut “Start It Up”. Blending R&B with that Caribbean dance flavour, the song is quite engaging. Alex’s smooth vocal delivery adds a gripping edge to the composer’s heartfelt lyrics. The song finds her expressing caution before committing to a romantic relationship. “Start It Up” is a precursor to her debut EP Sweet & Sour, which is in the offing.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Alex Mali is, however, of Jamaican and Trinidadian heritage. She’s slowly-yet-steadily been building a following and the release of the EP will signify her intent to finally venture out into the mainstream.
