Last month, Aipate shared “Never Right” by New York musician Sea Glass. The artist did follow it up with another one called “Lay Back”. This indie-soul track saw him work with frequent collaborator Sky Adler.
“Lay Back” is covered in a lush soundscape; Sea Glass’s instrumentation and Adler’s vocals complement each other so well that they help augment the meaning of the lyrics.
Sea Glass originally wrote this song in 2021 and it took years of perfection and that’s why it sounds this smooth.
He says, “I wrote the demo one stressful summer evening in Brooklyn while feeling the need to unwind. The demo title, ‘Lay Back’ was more of a self-instruction than anything. The lead guitar line that plays throughout much of the song was me following that instruction. But my approach to the rhythm guitars kind of came out of what I was really feeling, which was a mix of angst and restlessness. I wanted to nail the impact of dub style sharp trebly guitars set over chilled out instrumentation to depict what I was feeling at the time.“
As you listen to the song, consider following Sea Glass and Sky Adler on Instagram.
