Beti Masenqo‘s music straddles the line between indie and pop, with her sound deeply rooted in folk and rock. Even more interestingly, the Sacramento-based singer-songwriter, violinist and producer has Ethiopian ancestry, and the influences are discernible. In fact, ‘masenqo’ is the name of an Ethiopian string instrument.

Beti has released a brand new single called “better than before”. The song is upbeat and mellifluous. Masenqo’s mellow and harmony-filled vocals gives it a warm romantic vibe.

“better than before” is about love, the uncertainty involved and the leap of faith that is sometimes required. The song’s message is encapsulated by the line “we’ll find that nothing lasts forever but the time is right“.

I bet you will yourself playing this dreamy, nostalgic yet danceable song on repeat.
