Don’t we all love those beautifully written pop songs that tug at our heartstrings? Aipate‘s latest pop roundup features a selection of 8 songs that showcase great songwriting and stunning vocals. ORKID, Alex Rv Phillips and Bellah Mae are among the artists covered in this roundup.

ORKID – “Bed Of Roses

Kickstarting this roundup is the song “Bed Of Roses” by Swedish songstress ORKID. This marks the second release of 2024 for the Stockholm-based singer and songwriter. It also serves as a preview of her forthcoming EP titled WHERE FLOWERS GROW. “Bed Of Roses” is a dazzling indie-pop song shrouded in emotional fragility. ORKID’s pensive lyrics are complemented by her graceful vocal delivery. Fans of this vocally gifted singer like me have been ‘starving’ since she proceeded into a brief hiatus. I can’t wait to hear the whole EP, which pays tribute to ORKID’s late mother.

ROSIE – “Try Again”

New York singer-songwriter ROSIE has kept the singles coming this year. The artist recently released “Try Again”, a song that she’d teased on TikTok earlier in March. “Try Again” is gorgeous pop track that finds ROSIE singing about the fears which sometimes keep her up at night. “‘Try Again’ talks very literally about what I’m afraid of – death, living, car crashes, losing someone I love, etc. In this song I am facing the fact that these are some of my greatest fears,” she explains. The delicate guitar melodies gleam next to the singer’s glossy vocals, making this song heartfelt and heartmelting.

Alex Rv Phillips – “Celebrate”

Alex Rv Phillips, a London-bred singer-songwriter and producer, delivered a brand new song last week. Named “Celebrate”, it is a folk-influenced indie-pop song which paints Alex as a hopeless romantic. “This song, ‘Celebrate,’ holds deep emotional value for me. It conveys pride and gratitude for a past partner. It’s a tribute to shared journeys, a momentary wish to reunite, despite the pain, to honour their growth and our past. Only you two know where you ended up, only you two know what it took to be where you are now – and that deserves a celebration,” he shares. His soul-stirring lyrics are made even more profound by the passionate delivery. This song got me singing to the top of my lungs. Altogether, it captures Rv’s music style perfectly.

Ceara Cavalieri – “That’s My Bitch”

California-native US artist Ceara Cavalieri recently released an upbeat pop-rock track called “That’s My Bitch”. An earnestly empowering song, this piece was inspired about what a friend of the singer was going through. “I wrote this song about my best friend, who had recently gotten out of a relationship with this guy who was a total narcissist and serial cheater. She was feeling extremely sad about the whole situation and I wanted to remind her that she is ‘That Bitch’ and she’s way better off without him. The song is a Bad Bitch Anthem that hypes her up, talking about how ‘she’s independent’ and ‘doesn’t need no man or attention’,” Cavalieri reveals. The song has infectious energy and is quite catchy. I’d say it is best enjoyed with volume at full-blast.

Bellah Mae – “Hell & Never Back”

“Hell & Never Back” is an emotionally charged pop song that was recently released by Bellah Mae. With the UK singer-songwriter set to unveil an EP titled Never Waste A Heartbreak EP (on June 7th), this song serves as the latest instalment. It follows the single “2053” which has already garnered over 1 million Spotify streams since it was released in March. “Hell & Never Back” was written by Bellah alongside long-term collaborator Alex O’Shaughnessy and Nashville native Brett Truitt. “The day I wrote this song I almost didn’t go to the studio and literally cried in the Uber on the way there. I was in Nashville and going through a rough heartbreak. I had zero expectations for the song I wrote that day, but it turned out to be this one because it was so personal and true to how I was feeling,” shares Bellah.

B00sted – “Ego Tripping”

You may recall that Vancouver alt-pop artist and producer B00sted dropped an EP titled Selfish last August. The Canadian musician already has his focus on the follow-up, and has just released the first single off of that upcoming EP. “Ego Tripping” fuses pop with R&B and rap and hints to B00sted’s new sonic direction. The moody song the frustration and heart break that comes with being in a one-sided relationship. He says, “‘Ego Tripping’ is a song about not being able to do the same/put in the same amount of effort in a relationship. ‘Ego Tripping’ is referring to what the other person thinks your doing, but when really; it’s a lot deeper than that. You know you’ve changed and feel bad for this person but can’t really do anything to help the situation.

Alexa Kate – “Crash”

Up-and-coming singer and songwriter Alex Kate is definitely one to keep an eye on. This artist is currently working on an EP that is scheduled to drop this coming summer. Her new song “Crash” is expected to help build anticipation for the project. Speaking of “Crash”, it is a poignant ballad capturing the emotional rollercoaster of hope and disappointment. Enveloped in soulful melodies, the song delves into the struggle of dealing with disillusionment in a relationship. Having listened to “Crash”, I bet the forthcoming EP is going to be something special.

JESSIA – “The Woman You Are”

Canadian pop songstress JESSIA penned a song dedicated to mothers and released it just in time for Mother’s Day. Called “The Woman You Are”, the track was delivered in a stripped-back style, augmenting the heartfelt lyrics. With hints of pop-rock, this song has a singalong feel to it. JESSIA remarks, “I’ve been wanting to write a song that celebrates mothers for a while now. I love seeing strong and powerful women raising strong and powerful women. I grew up seeing my mom as a superhero, and dreamed of living a life half as adventurous and exciting as hers. There comes a time in everyone’s life when they realize their parents are just people too who seek validation and love, just like us kids. ‘The Woman You Are’ is my way of saying thank you to my mom for the years of encouragement and selflessness she has given me. I hope this song sparks more recognition for all the bad ass moms in this world because we wouldn’t be who we are without them.” This is a beautiful song indeed.
