elishéva has a way of immersing listeners in her world of personal experiences. At the core of her songwriting lies a knack for weaving compelling narratives, a trait that defines her newly released debut EP, i don’t believe in horoscopes. This project is imbued with quirky vulnerability.
elishéva’s music style is primarily folk-pop, though one can discern jazz influences, reflecting her time honing her vocals at Berklee College of Music. The French-born, Tahiti-raised artist currently resides in Los Angeles.
This EP was preceded by the singles “For Us”, “Scary Thoughts”, “anxious attachment style“, and “destiny (a match made out of sky)”. Three more singles were released with the mini-album, including “gut feeling”, which is the focus track.
“gut feeling” highlights the potential pitfalls of instinctive actions. Although some of the actions described in this song carry hints of cynicism, they are attributed to intuition. The artist’s warm vocals, paired with the song’s mild groove, add to its lighthearted feel.
In “anxious attachment style”, elishéva reflects on her personal life, candidly admitting her insecurities and faults.
i don’t believe in horoscopes captures the thrills and vulnerabilities, and the emotions in between. As you listen to all seven tracks, you accompany the artist on this emotional journey. It is indeed a beautiful body of work.
Be sure to check out elishéva on Instagram as you listen to the entire EP on Spotify.
