It’s a return to form for Lupe Fiasco as the Chicago-bred Grammy-winning emcee releases his latest album, Samurai. The project is 30-minutes of soul-lifting music and pure lyricism. With production led by Soundtrakk, the album is jazzy, soulful and expressive.

Samurai is based on a conversation between Amy Winehouse and Salaam Remi where the late singer talked about writing battle raps like a samurai. This is well illustrated in the first single, “Samurai”.

The second single “Cake” is, simply, a self-assured showcase of Lupe’s lyrical dexterity. You’ll notice that this extends throughout the album. I’m sure you will find Samurai to be an album worth revisiting, again and again.

Posted above is the music video for the focus-track, “No.1 Headband”. I’d recommend you watch it, and then stream the project via Spotify below.
