Several reasons informed UK singer-songwriter Charles Costa’s decision to stop using the “King Charles” moniker and revert to his birth name. Apart from the awkwardness likely to be caused by him being confused with the actual king, the artist also felt that the increasingly vulnerable nature of his music necessitated a name change to something much more personal.

As King Charles, Costa did deliver three amazing albums between 2012 and 2020. Before proceeding into a hiatus that lasted 2 years, he dropped an EP and a couple of singles in 2022.

The artist’s first single as Charles Costa is a deeply introspective piece called “Nothing At The Most”. As a release, it kickstarts the process leading to an upcoming self-titled album to drop on January 24th.

Charles says, “‘Nothing at The Most’ is part of a collection of songs filled with the sounds and lyrics to represent the journey between longing and lament. I made this record with Jesse Quin (Keane) at Old Jet Studios combining songs with productions to create a new identity for what is essentially my debut album as Charles Costa.

I can’t get enough of this song. “Nothing at The Most” is intensely evocative, thanks to the honest lyrics and string-laden instrumentation. Listen to the record and follow Charles Costa on Instagram for more details about the scheduled album.
