Oakland’s Theadeus Gonzalez ended the year on a high, serving up the single “Getting Back To You” in December. The song arrived paired with a stunning music video which was filmed in the city of New Mexico, with Edu Ramos being enlisted as video director.

“’Getting Back To You’ is clearly about a girl I cared for,” says Gonzalez. “I felt like I broke through on this one by being more literal than I usually am lyrically. Singing, ‘Am I so far away right now to get back to you?’ made me feel like I was actually speaking directly to her. Usually singing about snakes and tigers only goes so far. This time, it was personal. When I was in the studio in Guatemala with Frank Wild, I improvised the verses—and they worked so well, we kept them.”

I love the resonant lyrics and melodious indie-pop sound. “Getting Back To You” is proving to be an earworm; the song is stuck in my head. Give it a listen and remember to follow the artist on Instagram.
