“Lama” is the new lovely piece from Barbara Schucko. The song is quite smooth and poetic and was necessitated by the collapse of a dam in Minas Gerais, Brazil. It was picked as a theme soundtrack for “Mud Refugees“, a cultural documentary. The Brazilian singer co-directed the film.
Colombian visual artist Paula Bast created the artwork for this beautiful song. Listen to “Lama”.
Below is a lyric translation from Portuguese.
Come closer, love
Because today my soul is crying
Come closer, love
Because today my soul is crying
Love, I can’t wait
For these bad times to go away
There are people trying to smile behind their
hands dirty with guilt
They’re so light, they have no shame.
(“Cara de pau”, expression that means wood face.
We use it when someone does something
intentionally even though they know it is morally
or ethically incorrect.)
Love, the river passed
The land slid, started to become mud
And all the life that was sculpted in a post card
Suffocate in these bad men’s greed
Come closer, love
Because today my soul is crying
Come closer, love
Because today my soul is crying
Love, I can’t wait
For the silence to cease and
For the chest that sings and that cries tears of
land and iron to
Lift us up, and shout, and put everything into
place
Come closer, love
Because today my soul is crying
