Stockholm-based producer boerd (real name Bård Ericson) and trendsetting Swedish artist Boko Yout (also known as Paul Adamah) dropped a collaborative EP last Friday. The project is called Griot and carries four innovatively crafted songs. Prior to its release, the pair did unveil the singles “All My Life” and “Lavendel”.
Focus track “Sooky Sooky” is a moody, hip hop-infused alt-pop song and a great representation of the EP’s overall sound. “Dédévi” is the other song that arrived together with the EP.
Listening to Griot, there are discernible lo-fi influences in boerd’s production. Boko Yout who is himself pioneering a style known as ‘afro grunge’ sprinkles his delicately woven melodies into the songs, giving them a unique, absorbing feel.
