Hailing from Sydney, Sonny Grin is gaining recognition for his eclectic sound that incorporates elements from house, jazz, disco and hip hop. His new song “So Sweet” is representative of that style. The Afro-laced indie-dance record saw him collaborate with fellow Aussies Djanaba and Nardean.

This song began as an instrumental experiment, where I was attempting to combine live percussion, inspired by drummer Yussef Dayes, with elements of afro-beat, house and RnB,” Sonny reveals.

The producer says he later sent the track to London-based Nardean with whom he had worked prior to the singer relocating to the UK. The result already impressive, he later brought Djanaba on board.

It was actually the suggestion from Aden at etcetc, to get Chloe (Djanaba) on board for the second verse and that really took the song to another level,” Sonny Grin divulges. “I could not believe how easily two strangers, recording on opposite sides of the world, could compliment each other’s vocal characteristics so well. The way Chloe continued Nardean’s lyrical narrative of manifesting the ideal man, and how their different harmonies blended almost into one voice – it still shocks me how incredibly it worked.”

I think we can all agree that the result is so immersive that one can’t help but sing and dance along. In that sense, the title “So Sweet” is indeed very appropriate.
