emPawa Africa is a program initiated and run by Ghanaian singer/songwriter artist Mr Eazi. The project has, over the last few months, been supporting artists across the continent. emPawa’s plan, which is fully on course, is to pick 100 artists who are then provided with $3000 each to create a music video. The expected outcome, according to emPawa, is that these concurrent sponsorships will fast-track the musicians’ career growth and, possibly, make them self-reliant.
Aipate has sampled songs from seven Kenyan artists who have been selected into the project. From Agolla‘s electronic-flaovured “Nayanka” (highlighted above) to Boutross‘ “Wrong”, these are records that emphasizes Nairobi as a melting pot for different cultures and sounds. Other songs we’ve selected include “Promises” by Leroy Mumeita, “Glow Up” by Karun, “If They Dunno” by Bey T and “Youth” by Wanja Wohoro and Kato Change. Nikita Kering’ (with her single “Tragedy”) is also part of the Kenyans on emPawa.
