US emcee Awon released his new album Seven Pt. III slightly more than a week ago via OUT.LI.ER Records. The LP is a collaboration with Seb Zillner (producer) and A N T I T H E S I S (composer). It features dense lyricism and minimalist beats built around expressive piano compositions.
Awon remarks, “When I first understood the concept of Seven Pt. III, I was drawn to writing in seven different styles to accommodate a narrative that reflected seven different thoughts. I drew inspiration from pain, regret, love, happiness and wit. I consciously always came back to the number seven when I could so I could maintain cohesion throughout the project. I decided to divulge some personal grief and challenges to allow my vulnerability to shine. Seven Pt. III releases on November 4th – my cousin Kareem’s birthday. We were raised as brothers in the same household. He was truly my best friend. Kareem would have been celebrating his 40th birthday this year. I still cannot escape the pain of his untimely death. That grief seemed to follow me throughout my life losing so many pivotal and impactful people that helped to mold me into the man I am today. The adversity and obstacles I have faced has created an insatiable hunger for me to succeed. I just want to use my own time wisely to create a legacy that my children can be proud of. I sincerely hope I added to that legacy with Seven Pt. III…“
This is conscious hip hop at its most introspective.
