Mary Middlefield’s “The Feast” still rings in my head months since I first heard the song.
Delightfully, the Swiss singer-songwriter and classically trained violinist finally got to release the much-awaited album from which “The Feast” was taken.
Will You Take Me As I Am? is the title of the album–the focus track is called “Take me as i am”.
The album blends Middlefield’s emotional intimacy with textured, string-laden production. Speaking on the new release, Mary shares:
“Will You Take Me As I Am is a record born from my constant need for validation and love. The kind that doesn’t come with instructions or conditions. It comes from always reaching outward to feel chosen, reassured, wanted, and from the quiet fear that without that reassurance, I might disappear. These songs live in the space between craving closeness and doubting whether I’m worthy of it, between wanting to be seen and worrying that what’s seen won’t be enough, or too ugly to deal with. I wrote this album while asking for love in a thousand different ways, sometimes gently, sometimes desperately, sometimes without realizing I was asking at all. At its core, this record is one long question: to an audience, to a lover, to a friend, and to myself: if I unveil everything… will you take me as I am?”
