Few artists can boast millions of music streams and online followers before their 20th birthday. For Gabriela Bee, a hyper-confessional songwriting approach probably did the trick, making her deeply relatable to her generation.

Releasing her debut album early last year, the Toronto-born alt-pop singer & producer has continued to impress with each subsequent release. “cool” is Gabriella’s latest single.

“‘cool’ is the avoidant attachment anthem,” she comments about this dreamy pop track.

“I don’t want to say that I am completely this type of person in a relationship but I do have tendencies to reject a person I love because the idea of commitment is intimidating. It takes a very specific person and a very long time to unravel me. I have also never been casual about anything in my life. I wanted a phrase for the hook that sums up the type of girlfriend I can be and how most of the time I’m just pretending to be a normal person when I like someone. I’d rather run and leave without a trace than stay and figure it out. Even when it comes to being able to discover more about myself.”

Gabriella Bee is working on a full body of work, and “cool” is the latest installment in that rollout. Get to keep up with her on Instagram.
