From Canada arrives alt-pop artist Mackenzie Arromba and her new single “quicksand”. Her first release of 2026, it is another reminder of her evocative songwriting.

“quicksand” is a different kind of breakup song. It delves into that situation where one’s decision to exit a relationship becomes complicated by their unreadiness to leave everything behind.

“I hope ‘quicksand’ makes people feel understood, especially anyone who has stayed in something they know they need to leave,” explains Arromba. “It’s so easy to spend so long trying to keep something afloat that you don’t realize you’re drowning too.”

Mackenzie is really talented. In just three years, she has managed to build a fanbase around her honest lyrics and atmospheric alt-pop style. I hope to hear more music from her.
