Whether you call it hardcore, boom-bap, underground or classic rap, one things is for sure: it remains an art-form that’s here to stay but which not every rapper is gifted to favorably deliver. These 5 new songs highlight skilled lyricism and hip-hop production…
Pearl Gates & Syll – “The Offering”
“The Offering” is a new hardcore rap song from Washington Heights, New York emcee Pearl Gates and Syll, another lyrical rapper from NY city. The Frankie P-produced record is accompanied with a culturally befitting music video filmed by Damijin’ Myndz; the clip is shot against a background of skateboarding displays and graffiti walls. Taken from the duo’s forthcoming album Play This 2, this track follows the single “Kingz” in which the two artists featured Los Angeles-based Blu. “The Offering” finds them trading bars over a heavy boom-bap beat.
2. CJ Fly & Conway The Machine – “City We From”
“City We From” is a power collaboration from the hearts of New York. The song is by fast-rising Pro Era Records artist CJ Fly and features Conway The Machine, a Griselda Records emcee whose camp is currently riding high with their collective album WWCD. Musically, “City We from” combines endearing piano chords with a classic hip-hop instrumentation. The two then go lyrical, spitting hard-hitting bars inspired by their real-life experiences. CJ’s previous single “RUDEBWOY” featured Pro Era head honcho Joey Bada$$.
3. Wish Master – “Science”
UK emcee Wishmaster goes cosmic with the visuals for his single “Science”. Directed by Joseph James, the clip shuttles between ‘the moon’ and his grandmom’s living room and visually dresses the already released track. Carrying gritty textured production and head-nodding grooves, “Science”, which is taken from the artist’s new album Boom Bap To The Future, provides an enjoyable listening experience. About it, Wishmaster says: “This song is about self belief and letting people and the industry know I’m here because I deserve to be. Not by luck, but through hard work and having mastered my craft. Life is just equations – if you do the maths you’ll know the science.“
Kaa La Moto & Mama C – “Shango Warrior”
Kenyan lyricist Kaa La Moto‘s new single “Shango Warrior” pairs him with Black Panther and vocalist, Charlotte ‘Mama C‘ O’Neal. Delivered in Swahili, the High Smoke-produced track is shared alongside a clip directed by NYC-based Emmy-award winning filmmaker Lisa Russell. According to Kaa, ‘Shango’ means a warrior spirit in the Orisha culture.
5. Prince Wiser – “Team Wise Intro”
Another debut project will arrive early 2020 in the form of Hard To Be Wise. In building anticipation for it, 29-year-old The Bronx, NY rapper Prince Wiser (aka Noah Elias Vinson) teases the scheduled release with this new single, “Team Wise Intro”. Crafted from a melody-laden, rhythmic beat, the track, which was produced by Othellobeats, lays the ground for Prince Wiser’s introspective lyrics. Still, the delivery is energetic and gets the listener jam to the song while also being mentally engaged by the lyrics.
