Last Saturday, 14th Dec, Nairobi-based Kenyan songstress Ivlyn Mutua launched her new Christmas-themed album 12 Beats of Christmas. Hosted at The Alchemist Bar by the events wing of her label Taurus Musik, the showcase saw the former gospel artist performing alongside other musicians: Alisha Popat, Bruce J Rooke, Tetu Shani, Meryl Paige, Cathy Matete, Julius Max, H_art the Band, Petra, Chris Adwar and Dafari, all backed by Tha Movement band.
With the show kicking off at 6 PM, DJ Kay warmed the dance-floor before each musician took to the beautifully lit stage. As the star of the night, Ivlyn had ample time to perform all the 12 songs — 5 original compositions and 7 covers, with genres spanning soul, Afro-fusion, Afro-pop and dancehall — together with the featured acts. It was, for the revelers, a fun way to usher in the holiday season.
