In 2014, Israeli musician and producer Kutiman (also known as Ophir Kutiel) traveled to Tanzania and culturally interacted with the local community. His forthcoming album titled Wachaga (a reference to the Chaga tribe that live around Mt. Kilimanjaro) is the highly anticipated product of that trip.
Shared above is the album’s first single “Copasavana”. It’s a mesmerising blend of horns, percussions and ensnaring shakers, all topped with lovely synths. The overlying vocals involves a mix of female ullulation and hypnotic chants. The sound is unmistakably African.
Wachaga is slated for a July 19 release and will surely transport you to the depths of the Savannah.
