Before quiting her job to venture into music full-time, Shima was, until recently, working as a software engineer. The Japanese-American singer-songwriter and producer gets to discuss the thought process that led to that life-changing decision in her brand new single, “Machine”.
The song features fellow Japanese rapper Miyachi and was written, produced and mixed by Shima. Delivering their lyrics in both English and Japanese, the two artists underscore about the need to pursue one’s dreams, even if it’s not as lucrative and safe as a regular 9-5 gig.
While “Machine” delves into such a sensitive topic, this track sounds funky and enjoyably summery. It carries an alt-pop sound that infuses elements of R&B, hip-hop and electronica.
Since March 2020, Shima and Miyachi have shared the same management team, and so, we’re looking forward to hearing to more collaborations from them.
