New Release Friday roundup and playlist is out for the week of October 9th.


clide – “blank space”

clide continues his streak of hot releases with new single “blank space’. The song follows up the emerging pop singer-songwriter’s previous releases, including “lost” and “fallin”. This new track further proves his mastery of song-craft and sees the artist cruising his way to mainstream attention. Its chill production is paired with clide’s haunting vocals and gripping lyrics. Inspired by his personal journey, “blank space” is about the search of an identity in a world where you can be everything. While the artist is currently based out of the US, he was born and raised in Berlin, Germany.

Taphia Mi – “Can’t even talk”

Swedish pop prodigy Taphia Mi is today sharing a new single she’s called “Can’t even talk”. Infusing disco elements into a modern electro-pop record, the singer-songwriter has created a vibrant anthem with singalong compulsion. About the song, the young artist says: “‘Can’t even talk was written as a desperate wake up call to a close friend of mine whom I felt slowly faded away from everyone that cared about her, losing herself to the blurry weekends. A reflection of the inner battle when you see someone you love spiral outta control but you’re not sure about either you should step in our step out. Inside you got so much to say, but it’s like you can’t even talk“. The record is out on ART:ERY Music Group.

KEiiNO x Sordal – “Transarctic Lover”

Norwegian pop trio KEiiNO are returning to our stereos with a dramatic new track called
“Transarctic Lover”. The song features folk-rock artist Sordal, who majestically adds his unique flavour to the record. About it, band member Tom Hugo says, “‘Transarctic Lover’ is a modern Beauty & The Beast story about falling in love with someone you cannot picture yourself with”. He continues: “It’s literally about falling in love with an alien sea-monster with an impressive mojo.” This new single was produced by RÜUDI and arrives as the follow-up to KEiiNO’s 2020 album, OKTA. The accompanying video was animated by El Salvadorian animator Lincktendo.

LP Giobbi x Hermixalot – “Take Me Higher”

LP Giobbi is one the most exciting female dance musicians. This was made clear with her last single “Meet Again” featuring Little Boots. The Los Angeles-based instrumentalist, producer and DJ is extending that reputation with a new 2-song EP titled Playing My Role. Featuring vocalist Hermixalot on both tracks (“Take Me Higher” and “Scuff Your Soul”), Giobbi represents for the fans of EDM, house and techno. Highlighted above is the song “Take Me Higher”.

Otis Junior & Dr. Dundiff x J.Lamotta – “You and Me”

Kentucky hip-hop and R&B/soul duo Otis Junior (artist/songwriter) & Dr. Dundiff (producer) are inching closer to the release of their collaborative project Rising With It. The EP is scheduled to drop later this month on Berlin-based Jakarta Records and so their new single “You and Me” is meant to get us in the mood. The song features Moroccan/Israeli singer J.Lamotta and is a soulful jam with pure smoothness. “You and Me” follows up Otis Junior & Dr. Dundiff’s single/video, “When It’s Sweet”/

Verbz & Mr Slipz – “The Feeling”

British rapper-producer duo Verbz & Mr Slipz are re-emerging with a new single and video named “The Feeling”. The track is taken from their upcoming album Radio Waves — the project is expected on November 13 via High Focus Records. “The Feeling” finds them on their lyrical and boom-bap best as they deliver a song to contemplate to. Listen and hear Verbz’s bars and Mr Slipz’s beats combining smoothly. The video created by Parallel Media is a befitting accompaniment.

French Manilla – “Kool Aid”

“Kool Aid” is a new song that arrives as part of Filipina-Canadian artist French Manilla‘s new album, Stop & Think. The soulful song is for the fans of boom-bap hip-hop and those with a keen eye for deep lyricism. Manilla can be heard pointing out instances of modern-day slavery while also describing how social media is pushing people to live fake lifestyles. The other nine songs on Stop & Think follow that same path: blunt social commentaries.

Mike Blumenthal – “I Know You Want It Too”

American soul singer-songwriter Mike Blumenthal offers us a chance to sing alongside him as he shares new single, “I Know You Want It Too”. This is a smooth jam that underscores the former Navy SEAL’s musical influences; Mike blends soul, jazz, folk, funk and hint of pop. “I Know You Want It Too” is thus so irresistible, with the lyrics equally captivating. The track is out of Pet Shop Records.

Izzy Staden – “One Look One Touch”

Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Izzy Staden is back with another great pop single. Named “One Look One Touch”, it’s a joyous and seductive piece that finds the young artist wearing her honesty cap. Izzy expresses her eagerness to be with a lover. She wrote it from a personal experience with a guy she was dating. Backed by the track’s melodic instrumentation, Izzy gets to articulate herself so well.

Meg Pfeiffer – “No Money”

Meg Pfeiffer has today delivered a gloomy-yet-uplifting song she’s called “No Money”. Talking about financial insecurity, the song is so relatable, especially considering the effects of the coronavirus on the economy. In fact, the German-Canadian musician says the cancellation of her shows inspired the song. “No Money” is self-produced and Meg has accompanied it with a lyrical visual which further illustrates the lyrics. Expect a string of singles to follow this release.

Hugo M. Hardy – “Trainspotting”

“Trainspotting” is the latest release by rising London singer-songwriter Hugo M. Hardy. The first single from his upcoming debut album, the indie-folk song is good enough to get us amped-up about the project. It’s a solemn and contemplative piece that evokes a melancholic feeling. In his own words, Hugo says “Trainspotting is a song about the nostalgic feeling of watching the people around me growing up, and feeling like the glory days are behind us. It’s quite self-reflective, and also hints towards me questioning whether I’ve made the right decisions, or whether I could be doing things better. I think it’s a feeling that lots of mid-20 people seem to be going through at the moment.”

AVIV – “Frontlawn”

Toronto-based artist AVIV is back with a lovely new tune, “Frontlawn”. On it, inviting piano and guitar melodies combine with the young singer-songwriter’s soft and beautiful vocalscreate a song you’ll sing along to irresistibly. So good, it’s been picked by Spotify’s All New Indie playlist. AVIV is an exciting newcomer and with songs like this, it’s just a matter of time before she becomes a recognizable name in the pop scene.

Nicholas Roberts – “Younger”

Producer and singer-songwriter Nicholas Roberts‘ latest release is a nostalgia-inducing pop tune titled “Younger”. Carrying his signature production style and characterized by polished songwriting and smooth vocals, the song feels so beautiful. Nicholas remarks: “Being young and in love is euphoric. I wanted to capture that feeling when you first find the person you know you’re meant to be with. It almost doesn’t feel real. I have vivid memories of staying up way too late, sitting on the floor and talking about the future, and just being genuinely happy. This song is about the nostalgia of those pure moments with another person and trying to hang on to them.

Yola – “Hold On”

Gifted UK singer Yola has just shared another country-soul ballad. “Hold On” is an empowering anthem featuring Brandi Carlile and Natalie Hemby, both members of the country group Highwomen. The self-written piece finds her asserting her identity as Black Woman. Yola says, “‘Hold On’ is a conversation between me and the next generation of young black girls. My mother’s advice would always stress caution, that all that glitters isn’t gold, and that my black female role models on TV are probably having a hard time. She warned me that I should rethink my calling to be a writer and a singer…. but to me that was all the more reason I should take up this space. ‘Hold On’ is asking the next gen to take up space, to be visible and to show what it looks to be young, gifted and black.”

Emanuel – “Black Woman”

“Black Woman”, which is the latest song by Canadian R&B/Soul artist Emanuel, is a powerful ode to the resilience of black women. The moving piece is not only enlightening but also quite therapeutic. ​​​​​​​”‘Black Woman’ is about reconciliation and also celebration – celebrating how strong our women are and how they hold us up….People might think this song was written as a response to the moment right now but it’s saying the exact same thing it was saying when it was written a year ago – ‘I see you, I recognize you, I appreciate you and I love you’,” explains Emanuel. The inspiration for “Black Woman” came to him during a moment of reflection on black history and his own relationship with black women in his life.

Taylor DeBlock – “MYWKY”

Los Angeles-based R&B/pop singer Taylor DeBlock is giving us a taste of his upcoming debut EP by sharing another lovely song, “MYWKY”. On it, impressive songwriting is paired with the artist’s smooth, honeyed vocals to create a sweet, vibey tune perfect for any moment.
