Maxo Kream x Tyler, The Creator – “Big Persona”
Titled “Big Persona”, Houston rapper Maxo Kream‘s new collaboration with Tyler, The Creator is superlative. The track arrived alongside a truly pompous music video. “Big Persona” has that southern (US) hip hop flavour, and was built around an epic instrumental crafted by Tyler, who also delivers the addictive hook. As a single, “Big Persona” marks the first chapter in Maxo’s upcoming album, Weight Of The World.
Roc Steady x The Game x Duuke Mantee x Eastside K-Boy – “Sunday Funday”
Southern Californian producer Roc Steady enlisted emcees The Game, EastSide K-Boy and Duuke Mantee to create “Sunday Sunday”. It is a bouncy West Coast anthem characterized by Roc’s bass-heavy production. The Game’s hook sets the mood, before the rappers deliver laser-sharp verses. “Sunday Funday” is everything the title suggests, but with a grimy twist.
Token x Rico Nasty – “High Heels”
Punk rapper Rico Nasty joined fast-rising Boston rapper Token on his latest single and video, “High Heels”. The song arrived alongside the announcement of Token’s upcoming third album, Pink is Better (due October 8). “High Heels” showcases both artists’ unique styles and approaches. Token remarks, “Rico and I came together to embrace the fast life we find ourselves trapped inside of. This song represents the high energy, fun life I always dreamed about without acknowledging any of its downsides…”
Genra – “Del Funk”
“Del Funk” is the latest offering from North Oakland-raised rapper Genra. Not an uncommon name to regular Aipate readers, the artist has built a reputation by releasing his splendid hip hop tunes, with his 2018 single “Zoe” being one of the absolute standouts. Back to “Del Funk”, it’s a tribute Del the Funky Homosapien (from the Hieroglyphics crew). “His storytelling and off-center way of viewing the world made me feel like I was in the room, on the couch with him and his crew, hearing the stories he told on wax unfold and come to life. I wanted to pay homage to both artistic influences for this song, merging a beat with strong 808s with a boom-bap lyrical storytelling approach with a mix of voice inflections and different cadences,” notes Genra. The rapper is getting ready top unleash his new album, Overcomer.

Moemaw Naedon x C.Scott x El Da Sensei – “Off the Path”
Moewaw Naedon and C.Scott released their collaborative album, River Rats earlier this month. Now, they return with the official video for the El Da Sensei-assisted banger, “Off the Path”. In fact, El Da Sensei co-directed the video with Big Joker. “Off the Path” is a psychedelic hip hop cut that bridges two rap eras.
Little Simz – “Speed”
North London rapper Little Simz released her new album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, on September 3rd. It is nineteen tracks long and the song “Speed” is one of the standouts. On it, you can hear the astute UK artist articulately delivering strong statements over a percussion-heavy instrumental.

Tiggz – “Plan A”
The newest single by Toronto artist Tiggz found him in a celebratory mood. Called “Plan A”, it is an exhibition of the ambition that drives the Canadian/Guyanese rapper. On “Plan A”, Tiggz details the big moves he’s been making and the corresponding outcomes. Champagne bottles after hard work is the way he prefers it.

St. Christoph & Shaade – “Pressin'”
Sydney, Australia rap duo St. Christoph & Shaade delivered a funky, uptempo tune called “Pressin'”. Carrying a 90’s throwback feel, it is a great summer song. The song’s horn-filled instrumentation, laidback vocals and fun-loving lyrics induce a special vibe. St. Christoph & Shaade are working on a new EP and I cant wait to give it a dedicated listen.
