The creative chemistry forged between Berlin-based eight-piece band The Ruffcats and Nigerian-born rapper and singer RAH will culminate in an album set to be released this coming July. The first single, “Agidi”, arrived a week ago. For fans on Fela Kuti’s music, this track will feel quite familiar, both sonically and thematically.

“Agidi” is a jazzy afrobeat song filled with ensnaring horns, hypnotic guitars and psychedelic keys. The word ‘agidi’ refers to a stubborn person, and so the song describes the stubbornness with which many people, especially politicians, approach issues. RAH’s spoken-word verse drill that message home perfectly.

Posted below is an in-studio live performance of “Agidi”. You can find RAH and The Ruffcats on Instagram.
