Nigerian music industry is a dominant force in the continent. Fuelled by the continued rise of afrobeats, the industry churns out mega stars every other year. For us at Aipate, finding out who the fastest rising, or most popular artists are is always intriguing, and metrics like Spotify monthly listeners are proving to be so helpful. In this article, we are ranking the top 10 Nigerian artists, based on this metric.
These numbers keep rising and falling, that’s why we also included (in the below table) each artist’s peak monthly listeners, that is, their highest ever number of monthly listeners.
Currently, the top Nigerian artist on Spotify is Ayra Starr with more than 23.8 million monthly listeners. Burna Boy and Rema are almost inseparable at about 22.4 million. With her 19 million monthly listeners, Tems is not too far away from them.
It is interesting to note that Rema (40 million) and Ayra Starr (32 million) have registered the highest peaks, probably because of their audiences are more youthful and tech-savvy. They have also done some massive collaborations.
Check out the current top 10 Nigerian musicians. This list is a mix of mainstays and newcomers.
