The collaboration between MK Zulu and Harry Gray began a little while after they met at the university while studying music. “Like You” became the first ever song they made together. That romance-driven piece embodied their love for rhythm-driven soul. Five years later, a new rendition of that delightful track has been released as part of the duo’s recently-released joint album, One More Time.

The album is a nod to soul music legends like D’Angelo and Chaka Khan. A host of newcomers (La’Vonne, TurnUpDeante and Coby Williams, e.t.c) were featured on the album, each sprinkling their unique flavour onto the project. Musically, One More Time blends funk, soul, R&B and hip hop.

There’s a timeless feel to this album — musically, the collection manages to take us back in time while still remaining fresh. The songs are characterized by lush instrumentation and genre-blending production. From start to finish, listeners find themselves vibing along — the listening experience feels utterly smooth and groovy.

The album opener “Soul Train” is especially intoxicating. Equally as mellow are the songs “Tango”, “Good to Me” and “Closer 2 U”.

There are also tunes with that sexy dancefloor appeal, with “Thirsty”, “Passport Baby” and “Party” falling into this category. Altogether, this album feels super groovy. MK and Harry did a really amazing job with this project.

For the two talented musicians, One More Time highlights their growth and collective commitment to creating timeless music. To me, the album is a reminder of the enduring legacy of soul music.
