Pinning down Gareth Inkster‘s music down to one distinct genre isn’t that easy. The Canadian artist is known to constantly incorporate influences from various styles into his music. Gareth’s new EP, You Are Not Young Start Walking, is an illustration of this.

The project opens with “Domino”, a warm, introspective song that starts with the lyric “cut me into ribbons and weave me something”.

“Like many of the words in this EP, the lyric has a compound meaning, some of which is personal,” Inkster says about that first line.

“Broadly, though, the lyric is an expression of surrender. At the end of our strivings, when we realize just how futile so many of our efforts have been, there is a great relief afforded to the one who can acknowledge their own limits and accept the pitifully short scope of their accomplishments, so long as they can offer the substance of who they are, who they have been, and what they have made up to something they can trust which is ultimately greater than themself.“
