Introspective and mournful, the latest single from Queens, New York singer Nikki Buatti is another showcase of her jazz-inflected vocals and profound songwriting. “What Is Life” sees the soulful artist turn feelings of deep frustrations into an anthem about resilience.
According to her, the song stemmed from a feeling that the world was crumbling down around her. It’s a solemn reminder to always appreciate every moment of life no matter what.
Buatti shares: “‘What Is Life’ is a diary entry, recounting a moment I felt at rock bottom. Someone I trusted left me in the lurch and the floor gave out from beneath me. In that moment, I questioned it all. But through life, I’ve learned that no matter how many times the world comes crashing down, you get back up, you crawl your way out and you live to fight another day.“
The track was produced by Nikki and Brendan Keenan and paired with a music video video rooted in that neo-noir aesthetic.
