If you did a Google search of “Barbados Female singers”, you will get, at the very top, famous names like Rihanna, Alison Hinds, Shontelle, Livvi Franc, Vita Chamber among others. Well, fast forward to a few more months the name of Ashlee Cain could be a solid top inclusion. The young Barbadian Neo-Soul singer presents a fresh earthy take on experimental R&B/Soul but with authentic touch. In “Yes”, the first single off her still-in-the-works, yet-to-be-named debut EP, Cain delivers a “soulful stripped down vocal over spacey smooth synths and melancholy but yet uplifting piano chords”. Produced by De Men Pruhduhktionz, the song’s vocals are stretched and powerful, and though it is premature to compare her to Rihanna, she definitely shares Fenty’s potential.
She hopes that her love for experimental sounds takes her to Europe but for now she is still building a fan-base that, well, consists of you, that is if you love this single, “yes”.
