Legendary Nigerian drummer (and Fela Kuti associate) Tony Allen is preparing to release a collaborative album with the late South African jazz maestro Hugh Masekela. Titled Rejoice, it is Hugh’s first posthumous release and features well decorated musicians Joe Armon-Jones (keys) and Steve Williamson (saxophone). The LP is expected to drop on 20th March via the label World Circuit. For now, however, you can listen to the second single “Slow Bones”.
“I don’t know why this track is called ‘Slow Bones’. Hugh came up with all the song titles while we were recording in 2010, and we’ve left them exactly as he wrote them down. It’s amazing to think that it was 10 years ago. But everything eventually appears at the right time, for a reason.”
