New York-based artist T. Shan has something new for his fans. The self-produced track is called “Coast” and sounds both fresh and nostalgic.
On “Coast”, Shan experiments with a summery sound reminiscent of California of the ’60s. Weaving his rap verses in between a harmony-filled chorus, he offers a not-all-rosy picture of California. Still, the result is an outright banger.
T. Shan says, “with ‘Coast,’ as soon as I heard the beat I saw a vision of idyllic 60s California, you know, Beach Boys stuff. That day, a song came on that dissed a lover for moving from LA to New York, and being a New Yorker, I got pretty indignant. A couple of my friends have idealized moving to the west coast as if that’d solve all their problems, and I wanted to depict how people move there with big expectations, thinking the sun and the waves and the glitz would help unlock something within themselves, but when they get there, they’re just as lost as before.”
The artist paired this track with a befitting visual which he directed by himself. Find T. Shan on Instagram.
