Even for short films, two-track soundtrack albums are rare. That, therefore, places Los Angeles-based artist, producer and composer Devon Michael‘s Grant Me the Serenity (Original Short Film Soundtrack) in a special category, not just because of its brevity, but mainly considering how the two songs effectively anchor the emotional narrative of the film.

The release features music for, and inspired by, Grant Me the Serenity, a new short film written, directed and starring Jessica Pinfield. This film revolves around a young woman (Jessica Pinfield’s character) who relapses into past self-destructive tendencies when her father, a recovering alcoholic, fails to return home on time.

For Devon, this isn’t her first time making music for a motion picture; her song, “Rearview” was used on the movie Grace Point. Interestingly, she’d already worked with Jessica in the past — in 2024, Jessica directed her music for “Retrograde”.

Grant Me the Serenity (Original Short Film Soundtrack) features two tracks: the film’s main score and “Embers”, an original piece serving as the film’s emotional epilogue.

The piano-driven score follows the main character’s arc, with its increasing texture representing the intensifying external forces against her.

“Embers” is more reflective though. The song turns moments of vulnerability into feelings of acceptance and empowerment.

Overall, Grant Me the Serenity and its soundtrack embody the will and desire needed to overcome challenges. And, with these two songs, Devon did an amazing job augmenting the powerful themes.
